How to edit a PDF on iPhone
Change the words in a PDF, add your own text, images and highlights, and save a clean copy, all on your iPhone. No computer, no account, and the file never leaves your phone.
What you need
- An iPhone with Sheaf installed (free to download).
- The PDF, saved in Files, attached to an email, or in any app that can share it.
Step by step
- Open Sheaf and tap Import a file, or share the PDF to Sheaf from Mail, Files or Safari.
- Choose Edit PDF.
- Tap any line of text and type to change it. The new words take the place of the old ones on the page.
- To add something new, pick a tool from the bar at the bottom: Text (six font styles, with size, bold, italic and colour), Image, Draw, Highlight or Shapes. Drag anything you add to move it.
- Made a mistake? Use undo and redo at the top.
- Tap Save, name the file, then choose Save to Files or Share.
Tips for a clean result
- Edit tables like a document. Tap a cell in a table and choose Edit cell. If your new text is longer, the row grows to fit, like in a word processor. See how to edit a PDF table on iPhone.
- Keep fonts consistent. When you change existing text, Sheaf matches the size and style of the line you're editing where it can.
- Removing something sensitive? Editing changes what is shown on the page, but in some files the original text can remain inside the file. To remove information for good (names, account numbers), use Redact (Pro).
What's free
All the editing tools are free to use. You can save 3 files a day for free by watching one short ad each, on files up to 15 pages or 10 MB. Saving a bigger file, or more files in a day, costs $0.99 per file, or you can go Pro for no ads and no limits. Free files never get a watermark.
